Sinalunga
“The sinuosity of the mountain, on whose slopes Asinalunga was built; the tortuous and long road you have to take to climb it naturally gave this village its original name of Sinus Longus, barbarously written on old maps and literally pronounced Sina Longa, which then imperceptibly changed into Asinalunga.”
Sinalunga, with its ancient origins and inhabited since Etruscan times, dominates from its hill the Valdichiana.
It is the homeland of the Gigante Bianco that grazes in the vast plain where once the Etruscan river “Clanis” flowed, and where today the Canale Maestro della Chiana runs, as a result of the Medicea and Lorenese reclamation.
A particular landscape is the one of this valley where small churches stand out, along with the “Leopoldine” farms, designed by great architects of the Medici era. Castles and historical farms transformed into fascinating villages such as Scrofiano, Farnetella and Rigomagno overlook their hills and complete a painting with colors of the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Chianina beef, cinta senese, and pici all’aglione from Valdichiana are guaranteed to have you sitting at the table for hours.

The Gigante Bianco tour is the route that characterizes Sinalunga and its territory. It should be planned over several days in order to better understand the places and the main product, Chianina beef. The Lauretana and the Sentiero delle Bonifica are also two cycling temptations, along with the minor paths such as the Biancalana and Sinalunga Bike for those who love mountain bikes.
