The "Chianti Classic" tour offers a route of 106 km divided into six stages with an appreciable overall height difference of 1931 m+ and a beautiful climb from one of the slopes of Monte Luco.
For those who want to enjoy it in one gulp, the route is quite challenging but should not be underestimated because, like wine, it is preferable to take it in small doses to avoid falling to the ground drunk with fatigue. In fact, riding along the Chianti roads, completely paved, well maintained and with low traffic, means being prepared to eat and drink from every point of view: cycling and endogastronomic.
It would be a pity not to take advantage of it to fully enjoy the beauty of the landscapes, ancient villages, castles, churches and farms.
The right recipe is therefore the balance that can be found between the pleasant fatigue of pedalling slowly and with your head held high and the discovery of a place where you can simply stop to rest or enjoy a nice bean soup and some good red wine.
Itinerario e Tappe
Easy stage with continuous ups and downs up to the GATE of Pianella, a town located at 107 meters above sea level.
You can refresh yourself at the POINT of Geggiano/Ponte a Bozzone before plunging into the exciting route through the vineyards and not resisting the suggestion of Abbey of Pontignano.
Don't be fooled by the shortness of the stage because 10 km are uphill, but always enjoyable for the agricultural landscape that surrounds the road on all sides.
Recommended stops in the picturesque villages of Lecchi and San Sano, where there are also POINTS.
You have to be patient and proceed at a slow pace so as not to miss the beautiful landscape, the splendid panorama and the scent of the centuries-old forest.
The road to the picturesque medieval village of San Gusmè is spectacular but spiteful and it is no coincidence that it is called "the descent of delay" due to the presence of numerous sudden counter-slopes.
San Gusmè is well worth a stop before leaving for the GATE of Castelnuovo Berardenga, where the loop ends and where you can find all the public and private services useful to a tired but happy cyclist.
