An undoubtedly challenging path with its 1.390m of elevation gain in just 44km. This route is linear, also practicable starting from Castellina in Chianti and San Casciano Val di Pesa. It is a journey in the heart of Chianti and its natural and historic beauties in an environment wisely built by man with agricultural work always attentive to the landscape. Florence and Siena are united by a thin line of beauty.

From the lively city of San Casciano Val di Pesa, where ancient and modern art happily coexist, you follow the SP92 Grevignana road, with some appropriate detours in parallel paths. You quickly reach Mercatale, the “Earth Market” town promoting its good, local products, and start going up in the Quattro Strade. A detour to visit the parish church of Santo Stefano in Campoli, dating back to year 903, would be mostly appropriate. From Valigondoli you reach the famous city of Badia a Passignano, placed between Testa Lepre and the Antinori lakes and after facing a beautiful descent. You go up and down dealing with stretches with remarkable slopes, surrounded by a unique landscape until reaching Montefioralle, an ancient military centre and a suggestive town, birthplace of Amerigo Vespucci. Panzano, with its “meat” and fine wine, is found after facing a beautiful road of 6 kilometers where plain land is banished.

The way to reach Castellina in Chianti is not one of the easiest, but the beauty that surrounds the traveler is such that the roughness it involves is second to none. The village of Monterinaldi anticipates perhaps the hardest climb of this route of 4 kilometers, leading to the village of Pietrafitta, a medieval fortification longly disputed between Siena and Florence. Castellina in Chianti is not far and is reached following the SR222 road, not missing detours to meet the beloved paths once crossed by the Etruscan people. The hard work is over and a gastronomic stop is needed.
