A medium difficulty route, short but with a good elevation level between the Chianti hills in the Senese side. Radda overlooks, from the top of its hill, a great part of the surrounding territory, rich in vineyards, olive groves, thick woods and inevitable cypresses. But if one was to venture through the narrow streets of the centre, the care put in urban furniture would be obvious: everywhere you can see the dry stone walls placed to border small and precious gardens. The brief journey allows one to appreciate how much the hard agricultural work has played an important role in drawing the landscapes and the houses shown forming small villages like Lecchi and San Sano in their own authentic beauty, pears of the nearby town of Gaiole in Chianti.

Easy
Distance
12.70Km

From the ancient capital of the Lega del Chianti, you depart facing a steep slope and then climb the Badia a Coltibuono crossroad to reach the first dirt road of 4 kilometers, heading to the Strada Provinciale Traversa del Chianti. You go up a solitary paved road and stray towards the Ama castle, one of the most renowned farms of Chianti. Lecchi in Chianti is the Point of this stage, and it is worth stopping at the workshops of the village because, along with a good sandwich, you can learn where the "Pozze di Lecchi" are, the fascinating spring of pure water where the treasure of a Chianti brigand seems to be hidden. Good luck.

Even if the treasure hidden in “Pozze di Lecchi” might not be really there, the stop near the San Sano town can be useful to gather some confidence in the future, since the sight alone of the famous monument of the “Beona Frog” will put your mind at ease. From San Sano the splendid views of Monti del Chianti and a smooth paved path consolidate the newly found confidence. Finally, you take the SP408 road, passing the Osteria della Passera, the Molinlungo crossroad and follow the dirt road in La Piana’s direction, only to return to reality and rediscover fatigue and sweat. The road goes up and, after passing Villa Vistarenni, it immerses in a deep forest to return to the Badia a Coltibuono crossroad where you can breath and turn towards Radda in Chianti. But the well-deserved rest in the public gardens of Radda, where the Point of arrival is placed, can only take place after facing the kilometer of the "Radda’s Rumble", a slope that deserves absolute respect and religious silence.
