This route is brief and easy, but it inspires to pursue more challenging journeys along the Pellegrini paths, starting from the Francigena and the Romea. It is no coincidence that this path is dotted with parish churches, mostly unknown but of great interest. Certainly, a day or even half of it is sufficient, preferably equipped with a gravel bike.

The route starts from the centre of Casole d’Elsa, but not before visiting the Collegiata of Santa Maria Assunta and its consistent artistic heritage. You can take a detour in the road leading to the graveyard to visit the church of San Niccolò. The direction is heading north along the ancient road that used to take to Colle Val d’Elsa. Here, you’ll encounter little towns such as Borgo al Cerro and, before reaching Il Merlo, you can visit the church of San Michele Archangelo in Pusciano, Cavallano, up to Lucciana, with the church of Santi Giusto e Lucia, and, lastly, Ruspaia. In San Donato Quartaia, where the church of Santi Jacopo e Filippo is situated, you meet the Via Francigena and, here, you’ll have to make a difficult choice: take a stop or continue along the road?
